The Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) has been active in Ukraine since 2014 and on an even larger scale since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
In response to the escalating crisis, an extensive multi-sectoral support programme has been implemented. It covered direct assistance, including the provision of food, water, hygiene products, shelter, psychosocial, financial and educational support, and stabilisation activities carried out in regions that were hardly accessible and most severely affected by the war, such as Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Mykolaiv and Kherson.
In response to the humanitarian crisis, PAH conducts a variety of activities that include:
- provision of food, water, hygiene products and shelter,
- psychosocial support,
- financial assistance in the form of money transfers,
- food security and agricultural support activities,
- supply of fuel, generators and other materials needed during the winter period,
- renovation and modernisation of houses, resettlement centres and public infrastructure,
- training and activities increasing the resilience of communities to the consequences of the crisis.
PAH effectively combines emergency support with a long-term strategy to strengthen the resilience of local communities – from meeting basic needs and psychological support to agricultural development and education. It also supports local NGOs by increasing their competences and preparing them for independent humanitarian actions.
