Food Rescue Project Cork

by FoodCloud

After such success with our Food Rescue Project in Dublin, we are now bringing it to Cork!

FoodCloud’s Food Rescue Project connects retailers with surplus food to charities that need it. To make this happen, we need a fantastic team of volunteers to collect food from retailers and deliver it to local charities on a daily basis.

What volunteer roles are available?

We are always looking for new volunteers to join our community. For every trip we need a driver and a navigator, so you are still essential even if you do not have a license! The driver takes off in our fantastic Opel sponsored Combo van (drivers only need a standard car driver’s license to drive these light vans). While the navigator keeps record of the food acquired and gives directions to the driver.

After collecting donations from stores, the food is then dropped off to one of our wonderful charity partners.

This work is so rewarding, as our volunteers can see the direct impact they are making in tackling food waste and food poverty.

What is the time commitment?

10 -11am, Mon - Fri

How can I get involved?

If you are interested in joining our team, all new volunteers must attend a training session with us. The training session takes one hour and will cover basic food safety training, what is involved in the routes, and what it means to be a FoodCloud volunteer.

We will also provide training for drivers in Opel vans. All volunteers need to be able to follow procedures, especially relating to food hygiene and safety commitment and adherence to FoodCloud’s organisational values and policies.
