Psychosocial and Food Support for Children in Poland

by Polska Akcja Humanitarna|Polish Humanitarian Action

Pajacyk is a program through which Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) has been supporting children and youth in Poland since 1998. Pajacyk funds both nutritious meals and mental health support initiatives. Our ultimate goal is to ensure the health and proper development of every child.

Psychosocial Support
The objective of the program is to provide psychological and social support to children and adolescents across Poland. As part of this initiative, we focus on mental health prevention, provide access to specialists, and enhance the well-being of young people, while also fostering their social and life skills, as well as their interests. We want children to be able to count on long-term support that truly makes a difference, helping them learn how to navigate crisis situations.

This support is directed at children and youth aged 6–18 who are growing up in environments adverse to their proper development and mental health. We respond to the needs of all children, regardless of their nationality. The program also offers support to parents, caregivers, teachers, as well as staff members of non-governmental organizations and aid institutions.

The program is implemented by funding grassroots initiatives run by local NGOs throughout Poland. Drawing on their experience and precise assessment of children's needs, these organizations host workshops, support groups, individual therapy, and other engaging activities, including dog-assisted therapy, culinary workshops, integration activities, or academic tutoring.

To date, nearly 10,000 children and youth have received specialist assistance under the program! We have conducted over 7,000 hours of individual psychological consultations and 10,000 hours of group psychological support!

Food Support
As part of our nutritional support, we fund well-balanced, nutritious meals for children in schools, community centers, and other facilities where they spend their time. We do not enforce rigid criteria when selecting beneficiaries for the program – the only thing that matters is the child’s actual need. The program operates in three distinct phases: during the school year, winter holidays, and summer break.
