UNHCR Lebanon Emergency Response

by United Kingdom for UNHCR

Lebanon hosts more refugees per capita than any other country in the world. Since 23 September 2024, more than 90,000 people have been forced from their homes, with the numbers continuing to rise significantly. Nine out of ten refugees in Lebanon are living in extreme poverty – going hungry, sleeping in tents or under flimsy tarpaulins, and ill-equipped to protect themselves from the biting cold and rainstorms of winter. They urgently need help to survive.

UNHCR has operated in Lebanon for many years and is committed to staying and delivering for as long as needed. UNHCR is responding to the needs of forcibly displaced people across Lebanon, coordinating closely with the authorities and other humanitarian organisations, to help civilians who have fled the airstrikes and returned home with shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support and providing core relief items such as mattresses, blankets and kitchen sets.

UNHCR stands ready to further support the people of Lebanon, the government-led humanitarian response, and the many refugees that the Lebanese have so generously hosted for years.
