Over one million people are now displaced in Lebanon.
Families are fleeing with little warning as fighting intensifies and evacuation orders shift by the hour. Many are forced to leave everything behind, seeking safety wherever they can - often with relatives or while still on the move - unsure where they will sleep next.
Families describe overwhelming fear and exhaustion. Some have been displaced for the second or third time. Classrooms that held schoolchildren are now packed with families who escaped airstrikes with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. These makeshift shelters are overcrowded, under-resourced and stretched far beyond capacity.
This latest wave of displacement is unfolding against the backdrop of Lebanon’s deep economic crisis and widespread poverty. Lebanon already hosts more refugees per capita than any other country in the world. Communities that were already struggling are now being asked to shoulder even more.
Support is urgently needed to ensure that displaced families, Lebanese and refugees alike, receive protection, assistance and dignity.
UNHCR is on the ground across Lebanon, providing emergency shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support and essential relief items such as mattresses and blankets to hundreds of thousands of people. But as displacement increases and becomes more prolonged, needs are rising at an alarming pace.
With shelters nearly full and aid stocks rapidly depleting, humanitarian capacity to reinforce the government-led response is under severe strain. UNHCR’s operation in Lebanon is only 14 per cent funded. Without additional support, life-saving assistance is at risk.
This is where your compassion can make a difference.
With your support, UNHCR can provide life-saving assistance that allows displaced families to buy food, medicine and basic essentials.
Your generosity can help ensure that families forced to flee in Lebanon are not left to face this crisis alone.
